Elderly have less water, more suffering

Water4Life Mozambique often focuses on what ways the mothers and girls suffer in the process of fetching dirty water, miles away from the village.

This post focuses on the elderly who suffer, and with even less water.

Meet Gaia and Amos.

In quiet voices, the couple spoke to a member of the Leadership Team about living their lives—young to old—in the poor village of Diba Muangane, Mozambique. And, both conveyed the extent to which they have suffered without available water, especially in the last 10 years.

Now in their 80s, old age and declining health won’t allow them to walk the 4.5 miles to the river and back. So, they have no choice but wait on others to bring water to them. They are grateful to have the drinking water, but it usually comes only once a week. If they have enough to drink, only then can they wash their faces and bodies.

All Gaia and Amos can do, much of the day, is sit in the shade of their hut and wait. As Gaia and Amos shared, their heads were hung low, eyes were downcast.

For them, CHANGE finally came, in June 2021! Life, as they knew it, changed for the better and forever!  A new water well was drilled right in Diba Muangane.  And, for the entire village, clean, safe water is a miracle that donors make possible!

When you see the phrase "Clean water changes everything"— those four words are based on circumstances like the real-life suffering of Gaia and Amos. God bless them for sharing their voices.

Thanks to donors, NOT only is water close; IT IS clean!

There are more who are thirsty for clean, safe water! Please donate at: www.water4lifemozambique.org/donate

With your help, wells can be drilled every week, just like they are this week!
